Culture

The island is located right next to the historic core of the ancient UNESCO-protected City of Trogir, gripping the mainland with its bridges. Its forests provide shelter to a plethora of sacral sights. The Island of Čiovo has always been in the path of invaders, who left their marks behind, which today have become top cultural heritage attractions. Most of them date back to the Middle Ages, including one of the most precious buildings from that era: the monastery of the Holy Cross near Arbania, with its lovely court and valuable medieval art collection.

Gastronomy

The old autochthonous dishes reflect what life in this area must have looked like – what ingredients were used for preparing meals and how they were prepared at that time. Every dish tells a historical and cultural story of the Island of Čiovo. Classic Dalmatian delicacies are unavoidable, including prosciutto, cheese, olive oil, red and white wine, pašticada (Dalmatian fragrant braised beef stew), meals baked under a bell-shaped lid, seafood, lamb and fragrant aromatic pastries and cakes rich in citrus and almond aromas.
