Gastronomy

The ancient Romans called Istria the royal pantry, and gourmets say that Istria has not lost any of that wealth to this day. Istrian cuisine is based on healthy seafood and land, prepared in olive oil, seasoned with Mediterranean spices, with few ingredients and a lot of imagination - mostly flour, a little salt and a few drops of water. You should try Istrian prosciutto, sheep's cheese, Istrian manestra, fudge with domestic chicken or gnocchi with venison sauce, sauerkraut, sausages in wine or pasutice with cod and salted sardines, frittata with asparagus or mushrooms, lasagna with truffles, goat's cheese under the grill, radić . with boiled eggs or beans... At the end of the meal, a glass of Istrian brandy with ore will be nice. Fish meals? Fish is served stewed, boiled, baked and fried, and can be eaten three times a day, never prepared in the same way. It can be brodet, crab salad, buzara, shrimp cocktail, seafood risotto, baked grouper, sea bream on gradela ... Istria is also a land of good wines, and every good Istrian wine goes with a good Istrian dish. Try Malvasia, Teran or Merlot, Hrvatica, Cabernet, Pinot, Bourgogne or Muscat.
